Sacrificial Love

Luke 22-24 unveils the climactic events surrounding Jesus Christ's betrayal, crucifixion, and resurrection, offering profound insights into the essence of redemption, the power of divine love, and the triumph of hope over despair.

The Last Supper and Prayer in Gethsemane:

In Luke 22, the solemn setting of the Last Supper, Jesus shares a final meal with His disciples, foretelling His impending betrayal. He then retreats to the garden of Gethsemane, where He fervently prays, surrendering to the Father's will amidst the anguish of impending suffering.

The Trial and Crucifixion:

In Luke 23, Jesus faces unjust accusations and condemnation before religious leaders and Roman authorities. He endures the agony of crucifixion, bearing the weight of humanity's sin with unwavering love and sacrificial grace. Even in the face of mockery and derision, Jesus extends forgiveness to His executioners, embodying divine mercy and compassion.

The Resurrection:

In Luke 24, the narrative continues with the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, as witnessed by the women at the empty tomb. Jesus appears to His disciples, revealing Himself as the fulfillment of prophecy and the embodiment of hope and redemption. His resurrection affirms the victory over sin and death, offering the promise of eternal life to all who believe.

The Road to Emmaus and Ascension:

In Luke 24 we also read of the encounter of the risen Saviour, on the road to Emmaus. As Jesus expounds the Scriptures and breaks bread with His disciples, their eyes are opened to recognize Him, igniting a flame of faith and hope within their hearts. Jesus commissions His disciples to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations before ascending to heaven, promising the gift of the Holy Spirit.
