Pastor Laura’s Reflection on 2 Corinthians 9-13

I WON’T AND YOU CAN’T MAKE ME

… Here’s the thing.

If you’re old enough to be watching this, you’re making at least some of your own decisions. And if you’re making your own decisions, you know this feeling very well.

This week, we finish reading 1st and 2nd Corinthians. These are tough letters – Paul is direct, correcting a lot of problems in the church, and not holding back.

He even acknowledges in these final chapters – they might not like him very much.

(But he’s ok with that.)

The Word of God brings us into ALIGNMENT with God. As we read it, if there’s something in our life that isn’t aligned, then “THIS FEELING” might start to creep up.

In these last chapters, Paul tells the church:

I’ve told you everything I can tell you. I love you,

I’m rooting for you – but now you have to decide if you’re going to live for Christ – or not.

Because it’s true – nobody can MAKE you. We each have to decide to follow Jesus, and take responsibility for our own faith.

The Word of God encourages us, and it refines us – if we’ll let it. As we read together this week, let’s examine ourselves – and ask the Spirit to show us where we may need to make some changes.

Reflection Question:

  • What do we do with “THIS FEELING” when it comes up while we’re reading scripture?

  • Is there anything that the Spirit has been saying to you as you’ve read these passages that you’ve felt resistant to?
