Pastor Laura’s Reflection on 1 Corinthians 3-4

See this content in the original post

This is silly – but in this week’s Daily Devo readings, we read that this is what the people in Corinth would argue about.

Some claimed to be followers of Paul, others claimed to be followers of Apollos, and Paul writes to remind them – you don’t follow me, or Apollos; you’re a follower of Christ.

In the church, God gives us leaders and teachers who equip us to grow in our faith. As Paul states it, they’ve been “put in charge of explaining God’s mysteries.” And that’s a good gift to us.

But Paul reminds us – the faith that we build in our lifetimes will be tested, and only God knows the result. So we don’t fight over which leader is best, and boast about who we’re following – instead, we need to be focused on following JESUS faithfully with the help of our leaders and teachers, and building a faith that lasts.

After all, as we’ll read in Chapter 4: “The kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.”

In culture, there are a lot of leaders fighting for our attention right now. As you reflect this week, ask yourself: in a world that wants me to choose sides, how am I demonstrating that I’m a follower of Christ?

You can answer that question in the comments below, OR you can drop an emoji to let us know if YOU think I’m cooler than Pastor Jesse.

Reflection Question:
