WEEKLY REFLECTION

In 2 Samuel 17-24, we see some powerful moments where people show unexpected compassion.

One example is when Barzillai, an elderly man, provided food and support for David when he was on the run. Barzillai didn’t have to help—David wasn’t the “safe” choice to support at the time—but he stepped up anyway. That’s the thing about compassion: it often comes at a cost, whether it’s time, energy, or even reputation.

Now think about your own life.

It’s easy to be kind when it’s convenient, but real compassion shows up in unexpected places—helping a classmate no one talks to, checking in on a friend who’s struggling, or even showing patience with a difficult sibling. Compassion isn’t just about big, dramatic moments—it’s about choosing to care even when it’s inconvenient.

Compassion isn’t just a one-time thing; it’s a way of life. God calls us to be people who seek opportunities to show love, even when it’s not easy.

The question is: Are you looking for opportunities to show compassion, even when it costs you something?
