Praying Like Jesus

Life Hacks: Part 6

By Amitabh Singh

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” – Luke 11:1 (NLT)

When you read the first four books of the New Testament, it becomes clear that Jesus believed in prayer. The gospel gives us various accounts of Jesus praying.

  • Jesus prayed at his baptism (Luke 3).

  • Jesus prayed before raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11), before walking on water (Matt: 14:23), before choosing the twelve disciples (Luke 6:12), and before Peter’s confession (Luke 9:18).

  • Jesus prayed after healing people (Mark 1:35).

  • John 17 gives a wonderful account of his prayer.

  • In Luke 11:1, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray.

  • He prayers in the Garden of Gethsamane.

  • He prayers on the cross.

Jesus prayed in the morning as well as all night. He prayed before and after significant events in his life. He also prayed when life was busy.

He teaches us to pray with a confidence that God answers our prayer. For you to pray like Jesus, you need to believe in the power of prayer.

At PORTICO Community Church we have a prayer team that likes to pray for others. If you would like to join our prayer team, you can email info@porticocanada.ca
