The Golden Rule of Self-Care

Life Hacks: Part 9

By Amitabh Singh

Where Do I Start?

God cares for our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Jesus healed the sick (Matthew 14:14). He fed the hungry (Matthew 15:32). Your approach to self care starts and ends with your understanding of what Jesus is offering you today.

While you are working too much without proper rest, 1 Kings 19:7 might be a good verse to reflect on. When Elijah was down and discouraged, this is what the angel of the Lord told him:

“Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”

We all need to make space for rest and reflection. The greatest work of a follower of Jesus is to be able to find rest.

During this season, consider doing two things:

  1. Give allowance for your mistakes.

  2. Surround yourself with supportive and encouraging people

According to the World Health Organization, burnout is now an official clinical syndrome. You might wan to consider any of the following strategies to cope with your own well-being.

  • Eat healthy

  • Exercise daily

  • Pick up a hobby

  • Read

  • Spent personal time with God

  • Join a Growth Group

You can go over to PORTICO.cc/groups and find a small group that could help you along this journey.
