Christ's Return
How relevant is the discussion of the return of Jesus to your day to day life?
Most Christians believe that Jesus will return one day, but it seems that many don’t live with the same expectation and urgency that we read about in the Early Church during the first century AD.
In modern day churches we hear a lot about good leadership, how to tackle social justice or even how to live your best life. While these topics were addressed at times in Paul’s letters to the churches in the New Testament, by far the greatest focus and teaching of those churches was preparation for the return of Jesus Christ.
Peter, on the day of Pentecost, declared that we are living in the “last days” as God poured out his Spirit.
“…what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days,' God says, 'I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’” Acts 2:16-17 (NLT)
Then apostles went city to city, with one basic message of belief in Jesus as Messiah, God on earth, sent to restore good relationship with his creation.
The greatest season of church growth and thriving faith we’ve ever seen was not founded on 10 laws of leadership or ways to get the most out of life, but on the one truth of Jesus, and focusing on His imminent return.
