Thriving Marriages

By Doug Rhind

Quick question, “When was the last time you heard someone use the word thriving to describe their current state of life?” And by the way, you can’t choose to use my mention of the word in the previous question.

We are definitely not in a season of life where thriving is the apt description of our health, emotions, relationships, work, economy or any other area you might choose to include. These past few years have taken a toll on our lives and for many, the focus has been on surviving more than thriving. We are tired, challenged, run-down, feeling exhausted and in desperate need of a much-needed vacation. Thriving feels more like a distant memory than a present opportunity.

Yet Jesus promises all who trust in Him, “…a rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10) If you will permit me to paraphrase His words, “…a thriving life.” Regardless of circumstances, obstacles, challenges, opposition, resources or even people, we can thrive in every dimension of our lives through Christ.

Today, we are going to focus the truth of this promise on an extremely practical and relevant facet of our lives. In Part 2 of our Hollywood, Hallmark or Holiness series, we are zeroing in on marriage. With its origins found on page two of Genesis, marriage has underpinned the fabric of every era of human society. Marriage is not an institution, it is an invitation for a man and woman to share a oneness that finds its consummate expression in the spiritual, physical, emotional and relational dimensions of life. Join us as we discover the pathway to Thriving Marriages.
