“Listen to no man who has not listened to God.” – A.W. Tozer
The word “listen” appears 278 times in the Bible. The phrase, “Hear the Word of the Lord” appears 32 times in the New International Version of the Bible.
If we are not longing for God’s Word, we perhaps have never known or have forgotten what we are missing.
Psalm 119:105 (NLT) puts it this way:
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feed and light for my path.”
Here are 10 of my favorite words about listening from the Bible:
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” – James 1:19 NLT
“Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.” Proverbs 18:13 NLT
“Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.” Proverbs 1:5 NLT
“Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Psalms 34:11 NLT
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” James 1:22 NLT
“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart.” Proverbs 4:20-21 NLT
“So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” Romans 10:17 NLT
Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” Luke 11:28 NLT
“Listen to me and make up your minds to honor my name,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “or I will bring a terrible curse against you. I will curse even the blessings you receive. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you have not taken my warning to heart.” Malachi 2:2 NLT
“Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful.” Proverbs 16:20 NLT
