Discipline

By Rick Carrol

What is one change you are hoping to make in your life this year?

Most of us can identify at least one area we know we should be working on. Dieting, exercising, saving, or spending time with family. Pointing out the area for change is the easy part; actually making the change is another story.

The key to making a change in any area of life is discipline. Establishing small, achievable steps that we can accomplish each day, will create big changes over the long haul. This is true for an exercising, dieting or even our spiritual lives.

Peter said in first Peter 1: 13, that we should prepare our minds for action and exercise self-control. The discipline of planning how to live out our faith by setting up regular times and establishing goals for prayer, bible reading, and church attendance is the key to spiritual growth. When we establish small achievable goals each day, the gains we’ll see at the end of a year will truly make our faith stand out.
