Hearing God’s Voice

By Rick Carrol

One of my favourite things that the Christmas story remind me about is that God regularly chooses to speak to regular people like a teenager Mary, like farms workers and like and old couple named Zechariah and Elizabeth.

This couple had prayed all their life for a baby but never had that prayer answered. Unanswered prayers are one of the most crushing experiences for a believer. God have you not heard me? Is your answer no? What’s going on?

What’s truly amazing about Zechariah’s story is that he is in the temple, worshipping, supposed to be connected to God, and when the angel told him that his life long prayer was going to be answered, he just can’t bring himself to believe it.

In this Christmas season, it’s very possible that as you participate in the rhythms of worship at Church, in your home, God is going to want to speak to you. Maybe even bring a fulfilled promise that has be years in the making.

Keep your heart soft and open to trust what the Spirit is saying to you in that moment. Christmas is a season that reminds us that God keeps His promises, and reveals Himself to even the most “common” among us.
