The Discipline of Waiting on God
By Rick Carrol
What’s easier for you? Being given an instruction to do something, or being instructed to wait?
For me, being active is always easier than being passive.
When Jesus was leaving earth, the disciples had the task of their lives ahead of them. They would need to build the church; travel the world and make disciples. There were massive battles in front of them and they were fired up. They had the greatest story ever to share, the death and resurrection of the incarnate God.
And Jesus instruction to them was “wait.”
Stay in Jerusalem, until you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Just because you have a great story to share, doesn’t mean it will have the impact you think it will.
This only works when you allow the Holy Spirit to go before you, and work through you.
Our work has not changed from theirs, and neither has the process.
The first step before we “go” into all the world, is to “wait” until we receive the power of the Holy Spirit
Luke 24:49
“And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
