Pastor Hana’s Reflection on Hope
I have always loved the season of Christmas online shopping. Being able to sit on the couch, scrolling through all the websites, and finally getting the chance to click the “purchase” button.
And if you’re anything like me, after submitting an order, the weeks of anticipation waiting by the door, constantly checking the mailbox for the package to arrive is just as exciting!
And when the package finally arrives, and it’s exactly what you ordered–it’s a great feeling!
In Luke 1:45, Elizabeth says to Mary,
“You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”
Imagine being Mary—young, scared, and told she’d carry the Saviour of the world. That’s a huge promise! It’s exciting. And it’s overwhelming.
Isn’t that how hope can feel sometimes? It’s trusting God even when life looks messy or uncertain.
For Mary, God’s promise brought her hope, even when it didn’t look like the “perfect” situation. God’s promise to her also came with challenges—like explaining her pregnancy and facing people’s doubts. Still, she trusted God, knowing His plan was good.
It’s the same for us—God’s promises remind us that He’s in control, working for our good, even when life feels overwhelming. In our lives, God’s promises give us hope too, even when the journey feels confusing. Hope isn’t just wishing things will get better; it’s trusting that God is working behind the scenes, even if it’s not how we expected. Like Mary, we can find joy and strength in believing that God always keeps His word.
As you read through this week’s devotionals, think about how you can remind yourself of His promise when life feels uncertain.
