Pastor Arnold’s Reflection on 1 Corinthians 11-14

Have you heard this romantic movie line, "You complete me," or heard it in wedding vows?

This world often says you need to find a husband or wife to feel complete. But being single shows us that's not true. In Christ, we are complete regardless of our marital status.

1 Corinthians 7 advises that marriage is good, but remaining single can be equally meaningful, depending on one's dedication to God.

The apostle Paul highly valued marriage, comparing it to the union of Christ and the church. However, he also recognized the value of singleness, emphasizing the opportunities it provides. If you are single and wish to remain single, this is not a deficiency but a gift.

That is why Paul says in 1 Cor. 7:35, I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

God desires undivided devotion from all of us, whether we are single or married.

Reflection Question:

  • Am I embracing the blessings that God has given me, whether single or married?
