  1. What was something that stood out to you from this past Sunday’s message? Share what you learned and how it will impact your life.

  2. If you were to create a slogan that describes your family, what would it be and why?

  3. Read Colossians 3:18-4:6. Define the concept of an ideal marriage according to cultural norms. Elaborate on the differences between God's ideal and cultural norms and discuss why some perceive God's ideal as oppressive.

  4. What is the key feature of the wife's attitude toward her husband? What do you think "as is fitting in the Lord" means? Consider the gospel of Jesus Christ and how Jesus Christ submitted to the Father. Discuss what this looks like practically.

  5. Read Ephesians 5:21-25. What is the primary characteristic of a husband's attitude toward his wife? How does Christ's love for us, as described in the gospel of Jesus Christ, guide husbands in loving their wives? Why do you think Paul explicitly instructs husbands to "not be harsh with them"?

  6. Why is it important for Christian parents to cultivate an environment of encouragement for their children?

  7. Read Colossians 3:22-24. Regardless of your position, we all answer to someone at work. What motivates us to work? How does this attitude affect our work? How would you encourage someone who feels unappreciated by their boss? How would you encourage someone with a difficult boss?

  8. Consider the impact of working for Jesus, not man, on this aspect of your work. Imagine yourself doing that last favourite part of your job for Jesus. How might it look different?

  9. The pre-eminence of Jesus in everything is a central theme in Colossians. Why do you think making every relational context about yourself ultimately becomes a burden? How does reconnecting the details of our relationships to the supremacy of Jesus infuse them with meaning? What difference does it make, and why do you think such reconnecting is so important?

  10. Read Colossians 4:2-6. How can you elevate the way you treat each member of your family? How can you embody an attitude of service toward others in your work?
