Kids Ministry

Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will have background in planning programs, good collaboration skills, strong leadership, time management and organizational capabilities. The Camp Director must have a passion for serving others and the role will require patience, enthusiasm, self-control and dependability.
The role involves the planning, coordination and supervision of the entire summer camp program. The Camp Director will be responsible for ongoing communication with parents, guardians and fellow camp staff. The well-being, safety and supervision of camp environments and participants will be a primary responsibility of the Camp Director. Additionally, the Camp Director will plan, prepare and organize daily activities, site logistics (set-up/clean-up) and fulfill administrative duties related to camp operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in the planning and implementation of innovative summer outreach activities for children including one week of full day camp, designed to appeal to and include the various ethnic and cultural groups, new immigrants and low-income families that are represented by the demographic of these neighbourhoods and aligned with PORTICO’s overall community outreach strategy.
Demonstrate understanding of camp policies, regulations and standard operating procedures within the Kids Ministries Department.
Oversee program development, planning and execution of all camp activities and submits plans for approval to the Kids Ministries Pastor.
Collaborate with the Camp Administrative Assistant to create supplies lists and to ensure camp expenses fall within the summer camp operating budget.
Submit supplies lists and expense proposals to the Kids Ministries Pastor for approval prior to purchase.
Purchase summer camp equipment and supplies, maintaining accurate records and inventory.
Foster positive and cooperative working relationships with team members.
Coordinate with the Kids Ministries Pastor to organize and schedule trainings, as well as regular group meetings, with fellow summer camp interns.
Generate necessary forms, letters and documents essential for camp implementation.
Address and resolve questions, problems and concerns from parents/guardians before and during camp.
Monitor peer culture to identify any problems or difficulties and collaborate with the Kids Ministries Pastor address any issues.
Ensure campers’ compliance with camp rules and regulations and intervene when needed.
Support the implementation of positive behavioural management strategies.
Manage emergency situations in coordination with the Kids Ministries Pastor.
Report all injuries and incidents promptly to the Kids Ministries Pastor, collaborating to complete incident reports in a timely manner.
Evaluate the overall program for efficient and optimal program delivery and recommend changes when necessary.
Seek guidance or assistance from the Kids Ministries Pastor when required.
Facilitate weekly meetings with fellow summer camp interns to discuss the tasks that need to get done each week in preparation for camp.

Position Overview:
This role involves working closely with the Camp Director to oversee summer camp operations. Key responsibilities will include coordinating paperwork and handling administrative tasks for summer programs and managing camper information intake and records. Additionally, the position assists in all other areas of general operations for summer camp. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be well organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Generate and respond to various forms of communication, including email and telephone communication.
Coordinate paperwork related to campers and camp staff, maintaining organized files and forms to document relevant information.
Create and send out emails to parents/guardians regarding summer camp, including confirmation of registration, needed information, pick up and drop off times, items to bring to camp, etc.
Manage and update camp databases, ensuring accurate contact information.
Prepare online and printed materials.
Update and maintain Kids Ministries social media platforms with relevant camp information, promotions and updates.
Disseminate informational lists (e.g., medical and pre/after-care) to summer camp staff.
Collaborate with the Kids Ministries Pastor, Camp Director and fellow interns to enhance camper programs. This includes the improvement of application materials, brochures, daily schedules, registration processes, and policies.

The successful applicants will utilize existing lesson plans to assist them in preparing activities; however, they will also engage in extensive research to develop rotations with intentional activities that allow children opportunities to achieve both individual success as well as foster teamwork, cooperation and leadership skills.

Position Overview:
As an Inclusion Support Worker, you will provide compassionate, individualized support to campers between the ages of 4 – 11 years old. This role is ideal for an applicant who has a strong desire to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, feels engaged, included, and well supported during their time at camp.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children with exceptionalities, excellent communication skills, and a strong ability to adapt and problem-solve. Previous camp experience and/or a background in child-care, education, child and youth care or a related field is an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide inclusion support to campers living with disabilities and/or other exceptionalities, ensuring a safe, appropriate and inclusive environment for all campers.
Provide individualized assistance (one-to-one, two-to-one and/or three-to-one support) to campers living with disabilities and/or other exceptionalities.
Participate in the planning and implementation of innovative summer outreach activities for children (with a focus on children living with disabilities and/or exceptionalities)including one week of full day camp, designed to appeal to and include the various ethnic and cultural groups, new immigrants and low-income families that are represented by the demographic of these neighbourhoods and aligned with PORTICO’s overall community outreach strategy.
Collaborate with camp staff to adapt camp curriculum and activities to ensure inclusive programming for children of different abilities.
Collaborate with Next Gen Pastoral Associate to create camp wide strategies to help meet the needs of campers in need of extra support (ie. sensory spaces, hallway sensory paths, calm down spaces, etc.)
In collaboration with the NextGen Pastoral Associate, work with parents/guardians and other camp staff to develop appropriate camper behaviour modification and support/accommodation plans as required.
Provide care for each camper that meets physical, psychological, and social needs.
Utilize camper behaviour modification and support/accommodation plans to help meet the individual needs of campers and adapt daily activities to ensure campers living with disabilities and/or other exceptionalities are able to meaningfully participate during camp.
Maintain confidentiality of children and parents/caregivers.
Communicate regarding campers’ involvement throughout camp and offer feedback regarding how to meet camper needs.
Be available to assist and provide one-to-one, two-to-one, or three-to-one support as requested during PORTICO weekend services and events.
Assist with behaviour management and implement positive behavioural strategies during camp, as well as during PORTICO weekend services and events.
In collaboration with the Next Gen Pastoral Associate, create behavioural management and positive behavioural strategies guidelines and training materials for camp staff and volunteers.

Prepare and lead group discussions at Sr. High and Jr. High events.
Be available to assist and serve as requested in PORTICO weekend services and events at the Mississauga campus.
Assist in the planning and implementation of additional community outreach projects/events planned in June and August.

Assist and serve as requested in PORTICO weekend services and events.
Assist with the development & arrangement of charts & resources for services & events of all campuses.
Assist with the worship/music component for Kids Summer Camp.
Assist with the organization, creation and production of original music written by PORTICO arts team.
Work alongside Worship Arts team to facilitate creative team nights. These nights are made available to people who serve in the art & tech teams to help develop musical (instrumental) and tech skills.
Develop and mentor leaders to serve the needs of PORTICO’s Mission, Vision and the CONNECT, GROW, SERVE Core Values, as described in PORTICO’s leadership pathway.
Participate in the planning and implementation of special summer outreach activities and events designed to include children and youth who reside in the Mississauga and Milton communities. Weekly Programming – to promote ongoing events and programs scheduled for kids, youth, young adults and other ministries at both the Mississauga and Milton campuses
Edit and catalogue PORTICO’s images into folders to be used for future events, promotions, social media, and document retention.
This includes renaming, tagging, cataloguing, and organizing existing and new images
Identify digital content that is required to promote campaigns at PORTICO.
Assist the Tech Ministries Director with photography tasks, as assigned.
Collaborate with the Communications Assistant and Video Ministries Assistant to implement projects.
Assist the Communications Assistant in collaborating with stakeholders to ensure PORTICO’s website and social media features accurate and updated content that:
Meets branding guidelines
Accurately represents the church’s CORE values
Includes the appropriate and correctly rendered links, graphics, and themes
