Generous Compassion

When you see a promo for feeding the hungry, on a scale of 1-5 how much does it impact you?

While the needs of society can seem overwhelming at times, we cannot ignore the fact that extravagant compassion and generosity was a key character trait of the Early Church of the New Testament.

Three times in the first 6 chapters in the book of Acts we read stories of people sacrificing their money, selling their possessions and homes, or prioritizing the care of people in their society who were struggling.

While the teaching and preaching was focused on Christ, the lifestyle of the believers was heavily weighted towards generous compassion for those in need.

“And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity--all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” Acts 2:45 (NLT)

To live a balanced life of faith requires both our faith in Christ, and a demonstration of compassion for His creation.
