How to Share Your Faith
When asked “What makes you nervous about sharing your faith?” on a recent social media post, we received the following responses:
Fear of judgement
Fear of being unintentionally insensitive
Fear of the backlash
Fear of disrupting someone’s life or relationships
Fear of starting a controversial conversation
Fear of potential arguments
Fear of being mocked or ridiculed
Fear of not knowing enough about the Bible
Fear of being called a Bible-thumper
Fear of the shame and guilt from past mistakes
Fear of rejection
Fear of abandonment
Fear of not being able to answer questions
The common thread for all these responses is FEAR!
In today’s cancel culture and societal norms, following Biblical principles and the Christian way of life is often counter-cultural. The fear of being labeled as a bigot for standing up for your beliefs as a Christian is real.
How do we avoid the negative stereotypes and still share the Gospel of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection with our friends and family who don’t have the same belief in God?
Here are 3 ways you can share your faith:
Ask for God’s help – rely on the Holy Spirit to give you the right words, at the right time.
Start with your own story – how has Jesus made a difference in your life?
Keep it simple – don’t talk about religion or philosophical ideologies, talk about Jesus
You don’t have to be a Biblical scholar before sharing your faith. Just memorize a few key verses and use God’s Word to communicate His promise of forgiveness for those who turn to Him and accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
Take a moment to think of someone in your life who needs to hear the Good News. Remember that it’s not your job to convert them to Christianity. Your responsibility as a follower of Jesus is simply to step out in faith, face your fears, and share the Gospel – let God do the rest.
