Point 1: A journey of 40 days can reset our minds on God’s covenant relationship with us.

  • Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth.”

  • The Lord said to Moses, “Get going, you and the people you brought up from the land of Egypt. Go up to the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I told them, ‘I will give this land to your descendants.’”

Point 2: A journey of 40 days can remind us of God’s purpose for us.

  • “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  • Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region.

Point 3: A journey of 40 days can refocus God’s gifting in us.

  • So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. There were twelve teams of oxen in the field, and Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak across his shoulders and then walked away.
