Paying it Forward

By Rick Carrol

If you inherited a gift of $200 000,  how much would you spend on yourself and how much would you give away? I’d like to think I’d be generous with a large chunk of it, but at the same time if no longer had to worry about car payments, or even a mortgage, how amazing would that be? Maybe I wouldn’t be as generous as I thought.

1 Peter 4:10 says that God has given each of us a pretty amazing spiritual gift. We could have gifts of teaching, administration, or even something supernatural like healing and prayer intercession. These are some pretty amazing abilities that could help us land jobs, improve our lives and wow people. But it’s the 2nd part of the verse where he clarifies that we’re to use God’s gifts not to serve ourselves, but to serve others. When you receive something great, the tendency will always be to serve ourselves first. But in God’s kingdom, the gift is for others. Live generously with the gifts God invests in you.
